A recent study published in Journal of Neuropathology & Experimental Neurology focused on repeated brain trauma of athletes and soldiers and the diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) AKA Lou Gehrig's disease. Findings showed changes in the spinal cords of three athletes who had been diagnosed with ALS were inconsistent with the disease. Instead, investigators diagnosed concussion-like trauma, a condition that has similar effects on the central nervous system.
